…Let me introduce you!

Writer, director and facilitator Sidney Belony grew up and is currently based in Luton.

Her writing explores social and political themes and she also enjoys creating work with historical elements/themes. Alongside writing, Sidney regularly works as a director and facilitator, co-creating/devising with community groups, and leading creative workshops.

Currently a member of the Soho Theatre Writer’s Lab, her previous work includes ‘Wakes’ (Writer) – a play about grief, friendship and the experiences of two young Black women (Upsetters Festival/BunkerTheatre), ‘The Records’ (Writer) – a short play, commissioned by Creative Blue Balls (Theatre Royal Stratford East), ‘Riot Act’ (Assistant Director) – a devised show performed by a community company (Luton Town Hall). Sidney was an Associate Artist of 'People Power Passion', Luton’s Pilot Year of Culture project.

Right now, Sidney is leading online writing workshops, 'The Writers’ Collective' with Next Generation Youth Theatre (a Luton-based youth theatre company). The Writers’ Collective is a space for writers (ages 14-25) to write, to read, to talk, to share ideas. Follow this link to learn more/sign up.

Sidney was commissioned by Burn Bright to create a short play, entitled ‘Box of Bottles’, for their online event ‘Better In Person’. This work was performed live via Zoom in August 2020. The play is available now to watch online.
