If you don't know...Norman Yeung

…Let me introduce you!

Norman Yeung is a writer, actor and visual artist working cross-media. Born in Guangzhou, China, he was raised in Canada and is now based between Los Angeles, Toronto and East Vancouver. He holds a BFA in Theatre/Acting from University of British Columbia and a BFA (Honours) in Film Studies from Ryerson University.

He has been a member of playwright/creator units at Stratford Festival, Tarragon Theatre, fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company, Tapestry Opera, and Canadian Stage.

His play Pu-Erh (2005) was produced by K’Now Theare and Theatre Passe Muraille and Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts , and received four Dora Award nominations, including Outstanding New Play, and was a Voaden Prize finalist. Theory (2010-2018) premiered at Tarragon Theatre in TO, and at Mosaic theatre in Washington DC. It has been met with widespread critical acclaim, receiving The Voaden Prize 2015, and was nominated for the Carol Bolt Award. You can pre-order the script from Playwrights Canada Press here.

Other performance pieces include I Know I’m Supposed to Love You (Touchstone Theatre, 2020) - a digital “metaphysical meditation on aging and loss,” written and performed by Norman. Watch it here. And, The Zoonotic Story (Stratford Festival/National Arts Centre).

He has an extensive list of acting credits including Chimerica (Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre/Canadian Stage), The Kite Runner (Theatre Calgary/Citadel Theatre), Murdoch Mysteries (CBC), Rookie Blue (ABC/Global), and Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, and Wolf Hall (2020 Stratford Festival).

Since 1993, his urban art can be found in public space from New York City to Brisbane. He has exhibited his paintings and drawings in such venues across North America. You can see some of his breathtaking art here.
